Thomas Garner, a leading lawyer with over 12 years’ experience in high profile extradition, asylum and criminal law, will join Fladgate on 22 February 2021. Thomas, previously at specialist immigration firm Gherson, brings a strong mix of business and personal experience that will complement Fladgate’s existing Immigration team, currently ranked Tier 1 in Legal 500. Thomas’s expertise in handling complex and sensitive immigration issues further extends Fladgate’s ability to offer integrated services particularly across the firm’s strong Private Wealth and Corporate capabilities.
3 Partners have already joined a range of practices at Fladgate in the last 12 months. This growth supports its 3 year business strategy of accelerating its successful model of providing a personal, agile, clever and enterprising service to some of the world’s leading and fastest growing businesses and ‘trend initiator’ brands as well as UHNWI’s and their advisors.
Thomas has over a decade of experience of being involved in high profile extradition cases in a number of jurisdictions and has extensive experience of dealing with complex cases involving simultaneous asylum issues.
In addition, Thomas regularly advises individuals who wish to make representations to INTERPOL and has secured the deletion of Red Notices in numerous cases including politically sensitive allegations ranging from large-scale fraud to attempted murder.
Furthermore, Thomas is experienced in defending individuals facing attacks on their assets domestically and internationally. He has assisted individuals in challenging financial sanctions imposed by the EU and has secured the permanent removal of several prominent individuals from international sanctions. He was also part of the team which brought challenges against the first ever Unexplained Wealth Orders in the UK.
Commenting on the appointment, Immigration partner, Thomas Garner said: “It’s a genuine privilege and thrill for me to be joining Fladgate at what is an exciting time for the firm. The firm blends a great history alongside a modern and forward thinking approach to helping its clients. The immigration practice at Fladgate has already achieved great things in a short period of time and sits in a practice that is well placed to cater to all the possible needs of its clients. I’m really looking forward to joining the team.”
Grant Gordon, Executive Partner at Fladgate, added, “Thomas’s arrival is great news for the development of our highly differentiated and carefully shaped range of services for clients in our chosen market.
