The ability to move at speed on complex work is characteristic of our ‘unlimited’ approach. A great example is our work helping Guild Esports become the first esports team organisation to list on a major Stock Exchange in 2020. They have been a trend initiator ever since with big name involvement from the likes of David Beckham and the signing of over 20 pro players and content creators resulting in over 500% growth in its owned online audience since March 2021. The Fladgate team has: turned around player transfer agreements in as little as two days; worked on IP issues; and worked quickly to help deliver Samsung's first partnership agreement with a U.K. esports organisation.
To think ahead and be enterprising on behalf of a client as ambitious as Guild Esports requires a deep immersion in their world. Of course the sports and esports, gaming and technology team have extensive experience working on well-known international sporting events, commercial rights exploitation, complex commercial litigation in sport and reputation for international sports investment and finance. But to really give you a sense of what Fladgate means by deep immersion we picked on an Associate in the team, and asked them.
“I love working with clients who are doing something different and moving at pace but beyond that I am involved with a number of charities like ‘Beyond The White Line’ that was established to ensure that generations of players, athletes and those in sport have a sustainable future where people are put first. Oh, and I also created the sports and esports Legal Clinic, offering players, athletes and businesses building their foothold in sports and esports free sessions to answer legal queries.”
As it happens we had a lot more to talk about but in the world of sports it’s never good to go into extra time!
