Fladgate will be offering up to 5 Solicitor Apprenticeship positions. This combines practical work based learning with formal study at the University of Law.
We’re offering a 6 year programme working alongside lawyers in our core fee earning departments.
Applications for the 2024 Solicitor Apprenticeship Scheme have now closed. We recruit apprentices every two years, the next round of applications will be opening in 2025 for an apprenticeship commencing in 2026.
There are many great reasons to choose a Solicitor Apprenticeship, including:
We recruit up to 6 apprentices every two years. We are currently recruiting for apprenticeships starting September of next year.
The first step in the process is to complete an initial application form via Apply4Law. Shortlisted candidates will then be invited to complete an online test that will assess their critical thinking skills and situational judgement. The remainder of the process includes a short, pre-recorded video response to a question, attendance at one of two assessment days in our offices in February (which involves group and individual exercises and networking sessions, and a Q&A session with our current trainees and apprentices). The final stage will be an in-person interview with a partner or senior associate, and a member of the HR team. Places are limited and the recruitment process is extremely competitive.
The solicitor apprenticeship is a six year programme working alongside lawyers in our core fee earning departments, whilst simultaneously working towards an LLB hons with The University of Law. In year 5 and 6 you will join our trainee cohort whilst attaining your SQE qualification, in order to be admitted to the Roll of Solicitors in England and Wales. You will start at an administrator level, and your work will increase in complexity as you gain experience.
Our core departments are Corporate, Real Estate, Dispute Resolution, and Funds, Finance, and Regulatory. Over the first four years, you will spend one year in each of the core departments, before undertaking six-monthly seat rotations in your final two years of the apprenticeship programme alongside our trainee cohort. Your seat rotation will ultimately come down to the needs of the business. Whilst we can’t make guarantees as to which department you will sit in and when, we will always do our best to accommodate your preferences.
For every department you are in, you will be assigned a mentor. This is usually a recently qualified associate, who you will have regular catch-ups with and will be your go-to person for any department related advice. You will also be allocated a supervisor who will give you ongoing feedback and training.
As a firm, we are committed to high-levels of pastoral care and as such, you will also have regular catch-ups with a member of the HR team, who is there to support you with whatever you might need, and to make sure you are getting the support you need within your department.
Outside of scheduled meetings, we have an open door policy when it comes to supporting and encouraging our apprentices, and the overall culture of the firm is very personal and friendly.
Yes. We do not restrict applicants from applying for any other vacancies. We update our website regularly, so please keep and eye on our careers page for opportunities.
While we accept applications from all nationalities, we would expect candidates to provide proof of their eligibility to work in the UK before joining us. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer assistance with this process.
